ACOL Winery: Centuries-Old Traditions Brought to Life in an Ethno-Estate

Back in the 1980s, in a picturesque corner of Dilijan, the Avetisyan family planted their first fruit orchards. Many years later, their hard work bore fruit, transforming the place into a unique ethno-estate and ACOL Winery. Here, visitors can feel closer to Armenian nature and culture. The estate features fruit orchards, natural juices, wines, and distillates, along with the secrets of the ancient drink "tsi" – grape vodka, with roots dating back to the 15th century.

At ACOL Winery, guests can enjoy flavors found nowhere else:
  • Amphora wines. Made from endemic grape varieties and aged in traditional karases, these wines offer a unique taste.
  • Fruit distillates. Ten flavors with a velvety aftertaste. You'll be surprised at how smoothly they go down, avoiding heaviness or a hangover.
  • Natural juices. For those who don’t consume alcohol, there’s a healthy alternative – cold-pressed juices that preserve the vitamins and rich flavors of the fruits.
  • Traditional Armenian vodka tsi. A highlight of the tasting experience – its soft taste and rich aroma have been preserved for centuries. This ancient herbal drink was even mentioned in the works of Armenian scholar Amirdovlat Amasiatsi.

From September 2024, the ethno-estate offers exciting programs for visitors:

  • Estate tour. Stroll through the fruit orchards, learn about the history of the place, and witness the production processes firsthand.
  • Tastings. Guests can try amphora wines, juices, and fruit distillates. Each drink is accompanied by snacks that perfectly complement the flavors.

The production process is a spectacle in itself. ACOL Winery uses the finest grape varieties from various regions of Armenia, including Tavush. The wines are fermented in buried karases – a winemaking method thousands of years old. Karases are crafted from special clay that allows the wine to "breathe" through microcirculation of air via the vessel's pores. They are buried to maintain constant temperature and humidity.

As for the vodka, it undergoes double distillation and triple filtration to ensure maximum purity of flavor. Juices and distillates are made from carefully selected fruits and berries without any sugar, preservatives, or additives.
